This is the reason why they were called as movie trailers. They were always shown after the main movie program was over. But very soon it was realized that the people were not interested in staying in the theatre once the main movie program is over. The viewers would leave the theatre without bothering to see these movie trailers. This custom of showing the movie trailers after the main movie had to be changed. Now all over the world the movie trailers are shown before the start of the main movie program. The first ever movie trailer was shown in november1913.
