House of Wax: 1953 vs. 2005 |
More info...

Summary: The wax sculptures in a museum are a little too realistic. Find out why!
Original:
Director: Andrà De Toth
Starring: Vincent Price, Frank Lovejoy, Phyllis Kirk, Carolyn Jones
Tagline: UNLIKE ANYTHING YOU'VE SEEN BEFORE!
Remake:
Director: Jaume Collet-Serra
Starring: Elisha Cuthbert, Chad Michael Murray, Paris Hilton, Jared Padalecki
Tagline: On May 6th...See Paris Die!
Slashers 101: It wasn't the first 3D movie, it wasn't the first movie in stereophonic sound, but it WAS the first 3-D movie in stereophonic sound. It also helped along the 3-D movie bonanza that made those red and cyan glasses so dang cool. The remake sold its tickets to Chad Michael Murray fangirls and people who hoped to live vicariously through the film and kill Paris Hilton.
My Two-Cents: You know what would be cooler? Paris Hilton dying in 3-D. Verdict: Neither.
Vanessa Hudgens and Gaelan Connell Arrive at Bandslam Premiere

Movie Trailers The Amityville Horror: 1979 vs. 2005

Summary: A family is terrorized by demonic forces after moving into a home that was the site of a grisly mass-murder.
Original:
Director: Stuart Rosenberg
Starring: James Brolin, Margot Kidder
Tagline: "For God's Sake, Get Out!"
Remake:
Director: Andrew Douglas
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George
Tagline: Based on the true story.
Slashers 101: Not a slasher. No one dies, but the remake was riding on the success of 2003's Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's the definitive classic American ghost story, still shrouded in controversy. History or hoax? Not to mention it turned that jack-o-lantern looking house into an iconically creepy image.
My Two-Cents: The original movie contained social commentary that preyed on the everyman's financial and familial fears, which could easily translate to modern day terrors but the remakers decided to keep it in the 70s and forgot about the social commentary. Though they utilize opportunities to render Ryan Reynolds without a shirt, this is negated by the fact that he chops off the family dog's head with an axe to satisfy a bloodspatter hungry viewing audience. Killing dogs is not cool, even for Ryan Reynolds. Verdict: 1979
