Movie Trailers Prom Night: 1980 vs. 2008

Summary: Teenagers fall victim to a serial killer on what is supposed to be the night of their lives.
Original:
Director: Paul Lynch
Starring: Leslie Nielsen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Casey Stevens
Tagline: For some, it's the end of innocence. For others, it's The End!
Remake:
Director: Nelson McCormick
Starring: Brittany Snow, Scott Porter, Jessica Stroup
Tagline: A Night To Die For.
Slashers 101: The original is on imdb's top 10 rated slashers list. The only thing that the original and the remake have in common is a serial killer and fornicating teenagers undergoing a rite of passage the plot structure is very different.
My Two-Cents: I watched the remake alone sitting on my couch capitalizing on a Starz free preview weekend. Though it received negative reviews, I was satisfied. It pretty much followed the rules and I was even surprised by one of the clever moves the killer makes. I haven't seen the original but Jamie Kennedy's character references the original movie in my favorite slasher, Scream. Brb, renting the original. Verdict: 1980
